The Writing of Numbers During the Gothic Period

Numbers during the Gothic period were written quite differently from the way in which they had been written in previous periods; the same minim-dominant style used in the creation of the letter forms was applied in their construction, and it resulted in number-forms that occasionally become so line-heavy and elaborate (particularly in textura modes) that they become indistinguishable from letters.
